Butterfly

I'm still painting up a storm every chance I get.  Over the last couple of weeks I've been working on a commission painting for a friend.  I've really embraced what I've learned in the Paint Mojo class with Tracy Verdugo and promise to write about that experience soon.

Here is how this painting started:

Beginnings

And it looks like this completed:

It's 24" X 24" and will be going to its new home on Monday.  I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. This photo doesn't do it justice.

To Market

I finished this painting last night and I have to say it was a very enjoyable process.  I started out looking for 'something' in the very abstractedly marked canvas.  I thought I saw some large flowers and started to mark them in and put a vase under them.  At the last minute, I decided to turn my canvas and look at it from a different view and then I saw her!  I saw the profile of her face, the bun in her hair and the bowl on her head.  I brought her out from the background and put her forward.  It was like this painting magically came together.  The markings for the buildings were there too.  It was so unbelievable to me how perfectly everything came together and wasn't forced at all.  I finally 'get' what an intuitive painting is.  If you look carefully it will reveal itself.  Magic!

This is a 12" X 12" canvas and is available in my Etsy shop.  Link in the sidebar.
