My cell-themed series of paintings came about from my reflection on life experiences around some serious health incidents that left me with a greater appreciation for life, spirituality, and seeking connection with people and nature. With my love of color and my spontaneous process, I explored the ongoing relationships that occur in layering color and shapes within space. Cells continually die off and regenerate in our bodies. We can shape the landscape of our make-up through the choices we make, good or bad. I love playing with color and form to represent those choices within us both physically and spiritually. It is miraculous how we can transform and evolve ourselves.
Incorporating my childhood dream of wanting to be a marine biologist, I developed this series showing cell structures with multiple layers, macro and close up views, interaction of cell structures, and in various canvas sizes. Thus, revealing a symphony that imparts variations of my own imprint. I've named the paintings different types of protists of the ocean. They are single cell organisms with a nucleus like our own cells.
